Mornington Wool Centre was established in March 1971 and has been in continuous operation ever since. Over the years there have been approximately six previous owners and I have owned the business since 1998. We used to be located in a little Mall off Main Street but have out-grown those premises.  We try to offer a wide selection of knitting yarns, pattern books and craft items and we strive to be as informative and helpful as possible.

Mornington Wool Centre has increased the range of wool and other items in stock continuously over the years. We had also increased embroidery and beading to the point where when approached by a well know teacher, Helan Pearce, to hold classes we decided to expand and open a shop in Yuilles Road – Mornington Embroidery Centre.

Mornington Embroidery Centre began in April 2004 when “Embroidery is U" closed in Frankston. We bought some of her stock and fittings, transferred excess stock from the wool centre and added lots more. We were up and running with a good range of embroidery threads, beads, jewellery findings, braids, laces, haberdashery, handcraft books and, of course, Helan's classes and workshops plus a variety of different classes.

In 2007 when “Patchwork On The Peninsula” decided to close we bought some of their stock and added lots more, so we now carry over 1,500 bolts of fabric  and various patchwork books, patterns and accessories in addition to the previous stock and increased our class list to include patchworking.  We were then know as Mornington Embroidery & Patchwork Centre.

Times passes and things change again.  We had outgrown both our premises, the walls were bulging with stock and accessories to tantalise the nimble fingers of creative souls.  In September 2011 the two smaller shops were amalgamated into one and we moved into a lovely large, bright, airy premises at Unit 2, 68 Yuilles Road, Mornington.   Our new name is MORNINGTON WOOL & PATCHWORK CENTRE.

The staff and I are loving the new space we have and when customers walk in for the first time the reaction we most often get is WOW!!.  We have been able to increase the variety of items stocked and we are developing a much more comprehensive range of beads since Funky Lulas bead shop, sadly, closed in Mornington.  Patchwork Fabrics and wool varieties have also increased and we now stock some of the Debbie Bliss range which I hope to expand if the demand is there.  Our embroidery, cross-stitch and tapestry stocks remain an important part of the business. We hope you like the new store as much as we do and we would love you to come visit us in beautiful Mornington.
